Thank your for your support !!

We are happy to announce that we had reached our target – 30kg of old cloths collection! In fact, we have collected far more than 30kg!!  We are sure the needy at Cambodia would truly appreciate your kind donations.

Our collection will have to end prior to the deadline we had set earlier.  We will now focus on raising funds for the courier fee. Our initial plan was to ship 30kg of old cloths, which would cost around $300.  However, we have collected more than 30kg, therefore, we are looking at raising $400 for the courier fee. We welcome friends to chip in, please contact us if you would like to help in funding the courier. Thank you!

All clothings will be sent to Life and Hope Association in Cambodia via courier. For more information about this association, please visit: http://www.lifeandhopeangkor.org/

This project is an initiative from Brian, QiaoTing and Tracy. We hope to help the less-privileged in Cambodia by gathering resources from our friends. A little help from each of us would make a big difference to the needy

Browser for the better – Download IE8 and they will donate 8 meals to “Feeding America” 16/06/2009

Ads on MSN

Whether you like IE or not, this is definitely a move and idea the we should

respect and give them a round applause!!

This morning I am so surprise to see in my msn about this advertisement.

The ad says if you download IE, they will donate 8 meals to “Feeding America”.

Excited by this ad, i click on the ad to check how it works.

I am not Internet Explorer (IE) fan. In fact i only use IE when needed (some website force you to use IE, otherwise i won’t work nicely). Most of the time I am using Firefox and Flock (a variant of Firefox).

However, you could be IE fan out there. Even if you are not, you can also take this browser for the betteropportunity to help the rest by simply downloading IE 8.

I extracted this paragraph from the website

“Only complete downloads of Windows® Internet Explorer® 8 through browserforthebetter.com from June 8, 2009 through August 8, 2009 qualify for the charitable donation to Feeding America®. Microsoft® is donating $1.15 per download to Feeding America® up to a maximum of $1,000,000. Meals are used for illustrative purposes only. Meal conversion is effective until June 30th, 2010.”

So please download IE8 from browserforthebetter.com by August 8, 2009. Microsoft is donating $1.15 for every completed download through browserforthebetter.com.

What you waiting for, let’s do it! 🙂

Hair For Hope 2009

Hair for Hope 2009 is an event, which invites members of the public to shave their heads to show their support for children with cancer. Through this symbolic gesture, we aim to:

1. Create awareness of childhood cancer in Singapore

2..Show to children with cancer and their families that they are not alone in their fight against cancer.

3. Boost the self-esteem of children undergoing chemotherapy by sending the message that that there is nothing wrong in losing their hair or being bald.

4. Raise funds to help children with cancer and their families

5. Build a community of support for children with cancer and their families.

HfH is the only head-shaving event in Singapore that serves to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer. Every shaven head represents an understanding by an individual of the ordeals that a child with cancer is subjected to. HfH also provides opportunity to garner support from the public in the form of monetary pledging. HfH then brings a two-fold contribution: raising awareness and funds for CCF beneficiaries.

Find out more about Children’s Cancer Foundation and Hair for Hope Official website

They target to allow around 100 walk-in shavees depending on slots available on that day. Those who missed the online registration can try your luck to walk-in.

Sponsor a Child from World Vision Malaysia 01/05/2009

Recently after chatting with a friend Aimin and my ex teacher Mrs. Teoh, I found that they already sponsoring children for quite sometime, both through World Vision.

Aimin has a kid about 11 years old, Mrs Teoh has 3 !!! And through Mrs Teoh I found that sponsoring child from World Vision Malaysia is actually quite affordable. The cost is RM 600 per year / RM50 per month.

Since I am Malaysian, I decided to take up the Child sponsorship from World Vision Malaysia as referred by Mrs Teoh. RM50 per month is quite affordable, considering I work in Singapore and it will only cost me about SGD20 per month (exchange rate is about 1SGD:RM2.4 now).  What can you buy with SGD 20 in singapore? Or how easily you can save up SGD 20 ? Cut down just 1 restaurant meal per month, cut down 4 Mc Donald’s value meals, take 1 less cab, etc. It’s not difficult actually. But this amount could mean alot to the children waiting for our help.

If you are interested to follow my suit, you can visit http://www.worldvision.org.my/ for more information.

Doing charity online – Send gift to kids?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Brian Chan @ 11:09 pm

I have been thinking of sponsoring kids when I can afford it. Before it happens, perhaps I can still do something else to help them? This is on my mind when I came across World Vision website. This is really cool, you can donate a foot ball, a school, ‘a portion’ of school, and even select a kid online to sponsor. Wow!!!

Thinking that I can afford to send them some gifts, I clicked to sponsor 2 soccer balls.

However, after I checked out and proceed to make payment, I found that the site is only applicable to US Resident.

I was then redirected to Singapore site, but the options are quite limited. No gift sending, only child sponsorship is available. The sponsorship cost is SGD 45 per month. I can’t afford it at the moment. For those who are ready to do so, you can visit http://www.worldvision.org.sg/ for more information. Or if you are US Resident, you can try to send some gifts to the kids to day.
